Episode 15 – A New Path
This episode was largely wrapping up the whole Class Rep plot line which I felt like should have ended with her just being transferred to another academy and never heard of again. It would help put the anime in line with the characters in the manga and I don’t see how her character can grow now. There was a nice little fight scene half way through the episode with the outdoor activity Shino set up but the majority of the episode was talking… which isn’t a bad thing but most of the conversations left something to be desired though. I can’t be too hard on this episode since it is clearly the transitioning episode from one arc to the next. I will give it that at least.
I have two mention two characters that briefly popped up in the episode that got my attention. First, the emo Lolli that can control a creepy puppet… yeah…
What the hell is this? I know the Naruto world has progressed and we have video games, anime, junk food, and all the other pop culture things of today but really? This? Where did she even come from? Is she a new transfer student from the village hidden in the darkness of peoples hearts?
Second is the most un-Naruto character that has ever graced the franchise:
EXCUSE ME? He could be from any anime. I repeat any anime! He’s just a buff dude. He could be the gym teacher in any school anime. The designers couldn’t even be bothered to put the Konoha symbol on his shirt to make him fit in even just a little bit more. Hell, this would have been a perfect moment to bring back a minor character from the original series as a little easter egg for long time fans. Come on guys, you can do better than this.
Last but not least, the set up for future arcs. We see the bad guy from The Last: Naruto movie again talking about the next big guy won’t be coming for a while and some other random stuff that doesnt mean much at the moment. Then we see the two villains from the Boruto movie also talking about some random stuff about the space time around Kaguya’s world being 16 (which apparently is way too high and thats what makes them go to Naruto’s world in the first place). Are they rushing to the movie arc? Or are they just introducing these characters super early? I have a feeling its the latter.
Regardless, since it was a transition episode, I can’t hate it too much. Especially since Sasuke made an appearance.
